Project Proposal

                                                                     Project Proposal

My time at Ravensbourne so far has been very rewarding, as I have not only been able to build on the skills that I have, but also gain new ones that I will take with me when entering the industry. The rotation period allowed me to explore subjects such as Sound and Animation. Areas that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to explore before. However the exploratory stage allowed me to put my ideas into practice, as well as giving me the opportunity to try out ideas, which before I hadn’t been confident enough to attempt. The broadcasting project, ‘Timezone’ was confirmation to me that I wanted to work in production for television and has given me the drive to push myself further with achieving my goal. The project also taught me valuable skills on teamwork, which again is something I will continue to build on throughout my foundation and degree courses.

My idea for my Final Major Project is to make a documentary on wolves. I particularly want to focus on animal behaviour and how we as humans interpret it. I would also like to focus on human and animal relationships in today’s society. My primary research will come from documentaries similar to what I intend on producing. I will use this to gain more knowledge on how to film documentaries, as well as focusing on camera angles to achieve the best shots that I can. I will also read books on documentary film. As well as books on animal behaviour, which will give me a better understanding on the subjects that I will be filming. For my secondary research, I shall visit zoos and wolf sanctuary’s, in doing so I will gain more knowledge on wolves and their behaviour. I also plan on interviewing wolf experts, therefore gaining others opinions of wolf behaviour and human and wolf relationships. I understand that some zoos / sanctuary’s may not approve of me filming on their premises, so I will get permission before I start filming. I also need to make sure that interviewees are comfortable with me filming them. Therefore I shall contact them prior to filming and explain the nature of my project and confirm whether they are happy for me to use them in my film. Equipment needed for my project will include a HD camera and sound boom, depending on my different locations. Through this project I aim to gain and develop my skills on camera angles, as well as editing.

To evaluate my final major project, I plan to continue updating my blog twice weekly, to present the progress that I am making within my project. I shall also keep a sketchbook, where I shall keep note of my ideas, changes in my project, as well as the research that I shall be doing. I will also take on advice from my tutors and fellow students in critiques. Here I will be able to hear constructive criticism, which I hope will help me improve my project, to reach its best potential.
