Transcription project- Developing ideas

With the Michael Landy 'Multi-Saint'  as a starting point I wanted to focus my project on hybrid creature. As I have focused on surrealism before I started on my research by looking at Francesco Sambo's series of 'hybrid creatures'. I found these images extremely interesting as they were photo manipulated very well, giving the images a very realistic appearance.

However although these photographs are manipulated to realistically, I found that they were in a sense to realistic. My idea for this film was to make it a bit more obvious that the human in my film was wearing a animal mask. This would create a more comical approach to the film, which is the idea that I wanted for this project.









I then decided to look at the work of photographer, Rankin. I think that because it is obvious that the people in Rankin photographs are wearing masks it makes the image seem much more surreal like. I had my own collection of masks that I thought were appropriate to use for this project.



In my opinion i feel that Surrealism can go two ways, one being very ambiguous/unusual to the morn. Or in a rather comical way, as I had previously studied surrealism and took my work down the more 'weird' path. I wanted to make this project more comical especially as I was making a film. I was inspired by a music video called 'Look Right Through' by American DJ Storm Queen. The video shows a man dressed as a snow leopard in a suit who dances to attract women.
