When the task of finding 10 objects was given, I was so confused on what my 10 objects would be. Its hard trying to find items that represented myself as a person. I firstly found some objects from my present as they were more relevant to this point in my life (Book, cds,x-ray,festival tickets). However once I found a few objects from my childhood, (Animal picture, glasses, charm bracelet) I was so surprised at how many memories came back to me that I thought I had forgotten. The items all have deeper meanings to them and I feel are very good at representing my past and present.
During our first lesson we were told to find various ways to visually represent some of our objects, this could be from drawings, photos, photocopies etc. I decided to choose my x-ray picture as it is the most recent and relevant object.
This x-ray of my jaw was taken 2 months ago, following double jaw surgery. For 6 years I had waited to be able to have this operation, so when it finally got done I was over the moon. I decided to take my x-ray picture and rip it up into pieces, then reform the picture again. However I didn't rip up the part of the x-ray that was just of my jaw. In doing this i wanted to show that the focus point of the image is my jaw. By ripping up the rest of the photo i wanted to represent the change of appearance that has happened to me. The reason for my surgery was because I had an underbite, which medically is classed as a deformity. By ripping up the rest of the image, in a way distorts it, which i feel is a visual way of representing 'deformity'.
