I was delighted when I found out that I had the opportunity to attend a Channel 4 day held at Ravensbourne. This day would not only potentially help with my FMP, but also would give me a better insight into the industry that I want to go into. During the day we attended a number of lectures by the likes of C4 presenter, Alex Brooker, C4 Drama Commissioner, Roberto Troni and the Industry Talent Specialist, Priscilla Baffour.
Before the day began we were given the opportunity to sign up for a workshop. I decided to join the workshop for 'Practical Documentary Film Making', not only am I interested in documentaries but I thought this workshop would be very beneficial for my FMP. The workshop was run by Rad Miller. During this Workshop, we looked into various types of documentary styles and looked into the genre of documentaries in more depth. The different documentary styles consisted of: Classical Cinema Documentary, Cinema Verite (True Cinema), Docudrama, Mocumentary and Scripted Reality.
Following this we got into groups and had to come up with a 3 minute documentary of our choice to make within the hour. My Group decided to focus on the industry and how people have made their 'break'. We thought this was very relevant to the day. We interviewed three people in our documentary, including Rad Miller, Priscilla Baffour and another member of staff from Channel 4. I was the cameraman for the majority of our documentary. I think this really benefitted me, as one of the members of my group had worked in the industry so taught me the best ways to frame shots. I will definitely use this knowledge when filming my own documentary.
