Editing- First Edit

For my first edit I wanted to follow the structure that I had discussed with Tom. Although this structure will certainly change, I feel that it is a good starting point of my film and there is a lot of room for development.

I decided to make the editing process easier for myself by writing down every bit of footage that I used in my first edit. This way if I could rid of a piece of footage, that I then wanted to include again I would know what piece it was and how much of it I had previously used.  I had also already made a short edit from my filming at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust, therefore it was easier to access the footage that I had already selected.
I will be using final cut to edit my film on. It is a programme I know well and allows me to achieve more compared to previous programmes I have used, such as iMovie.

After making my first edit I showed the film to my peers and tutors to get some feedback on what I need to change and improve on.  The feedback I received were:

Jack (peer)-
  • Loved the cutaways used when discussing Red Riding Hood
  • To improve- needs to be more concise
Chris(Tutor)-
  • Good Structure so far
  • Consider some narration to explain the story more
  • Good use of footage
Tom(Tutor)-
  • Should open on howling (more effective)
  • Shorten hunting footage
  • Look for better hunting footage(less pixelated)
  • Make more concise
From showing this edit to my tutors and peers I understand that it needs a lot of work in order for the story of the film to flow better- in doing so the film will be much easier to watch and understand. To progress and improve for my next edit I feel that I need to re-structure the film. As well as this I need to cut it down and make it more concise, getting rid of any footage that doesn't really need to be there. I will also begin to start looking for better quality footage of wolf hunting.
