Animation - Week 1

Starting animation was a completely new experience for me. To start off the week the class watched a number of animations by...... I had always thought that animation was more cartoon films/ programmes etc. However after watching these animations, I realised that this was not the case. The majority of the films that we watched were hand drawn or made with everyday objects. I found this much more exciting as it completely changed my idea of what I thought animation was. After getting put into groups we were instructed to draw a object that represented this modern day. I decided to draw a pint of beer, as many people like going out to drink. We were then told to take the image of the person next to us, trace it and return it back, my other image was of headphones. Now with two different images we were instructed to draw the change in transition from one object to the other within 12 drawings.

For my transition I wanted to use the froth from the beer and make it overflow so when the froth subsided it changed into the headphones. Once the group had finished drawing our images, we were ready to film our animation on Istopmotion. This programme was very easy to use, it works by taking quick pictures of the drawings, which when played creates a film effect. However someone filmed their images upside down, therefore the rest of the group had to film the rest of the loop upside down. Overall I enjoyed this task, as it was exciting to see the drawings some to life. We were told to keep our images very simple, which I done and think which is why the short animation worked well.
