First image

I decided to use this image taken from my first shoot as one of my two final images. I done this as I wanted to show the comparison from where I had come from in my project, as this still life was inspiration for me at the beginning of my project. I think this image shows how personal my project is to me. I think the black background brings out the colours of my objects from the still life. I used artificial lighting for this image. I blocked out all natural light and switched on the lights from the room which was directly above my still life.
Second Image

I think this image works well as the mask is equally positioned on my face. The image is straight and it is evident this it is a self portrait. I think the lighting highlights the right side of my face well, this was intended as this represents my 'new' appearance. I think it was successful due to using a black background and this made my face stand out more. But even more so, this brings out the colours in the much more. I didn't want to edit this image to much, however I took the image into photoshop and increased the brightness and contrast levels so that the lighting highlighted my face even more. I also increased the saturation so that the colours in the mask were more prominent, making the image more striking.
Thoughts on project
Overall I am really pleased with the outcome of my photography project. Although the duration of the project wasn't for very long, I think that I managed to achieve a lot of research and work to get to the result of my final image. Due to the idea that my project was based around I wanted to keep the project very personal and honest about my experience through living with an underbite and the operation itself. My two final images also show the comparison in how far I have come through the project. For both images I used artificial light. However in my self portrait I used much more lighting, as I wanted the image to be more dramatic. During this project I also done research on colour and wanted to include this into my self portrait, I studied the emotions linked with colour and incorporated them into the half mask I am wearing, I done this in the style of artist Gerhard Richter. In doing this I feel that the project seemed more personal, which was my intention.
Final Image is great Molly! I think the lighting is superb! I especially like how the mask shows two sides to your look.
