Sound Design- Creating our piece

Over the weekend each person in the group was assigned certain sound recordings to make for our sound journey. On Monday we were ready to start making our sound piece. We decided to use garage band to make our piece as most of the group had, had experience in using the programme before.  We needed to make sure that the piece didn't sound jumpy or that different sounds were the wrong volume. Myself and Jack were in charge of editing the piece as we both had more experience on garageband, Helen and Imgoen were in charge of directing the piece and listing for areas that would be worked on,changed or redone. Overall we managed to record most of the sounds ourselves, however had to go on the website freesound.org to get sounds of a cat in distress. Although we managed to get various recordings of Jack and Helens cat, we weren't able to get recordings of either sounding distressed, without harming it, which obviously is something we didn't feel comfortable in doing.

It took us a little while to order the recordings into the correct order, as well at this we had to change the volume on certain sounds as some sounded louder than others, which made the piece sound very strange. Another thing that we done to make the piece sound more realistic was layering different sounds. This worked well especially in the section of the piece which was in the vets as there was multiple animal noises, playing at the same time, which we felt was a realistic interpretation of what someone would hear in a vets.

Overall I pleased with the outcome of our sound piece, i feel that we worked well in a group and this is the reason why we were able to make the piece successfully. I feel that the piece has a wide range of sounds that were relevant to the story of the piece, this makes the piece more interesting and realistic to listen to. We wanted to add very realistic sounds so the piece was as believable as it could've been. I think the skills that i have learnt from sound design, will help me as I progress further on in the course when I shall be adding sound to any films that I make.
