Photography- Test Shots

Following my research Jo Spence (documenting illness) and Gillian Wearings masks, (masks can hide deformity). I purchased a half face mask, the same used in the musical Phantom of the Opera. I thought this mask could work really well and the masked area of my face could be representative of my 'old' appearance that I was unhappy with. And the area of my face showing is clearly a display of my 'new' appearance which I am much happier with.

Lighting Shots

Before I conducted my final photo shoot, I done a number of lighting shots to find the best possible way to light my face well. I wanted the lighting to highlight the right side of my face more as it shows that the right side is more of the 'good' side in a sense.

Test Shots

For my test shots/final shoot, I used the same half mask. However I painted it in the style of Gerhard Richter, as I wanted the colours on it to symbolise my emotions relevant to my operation. And like before I experimented with lighting.
